“Many, many years ago I was lying in bed one night
trying to fall asleep,
thinking of all the things that I had to do the next day.
That year, I was motivated to work hard in high school
because I wanted to go on an exchange student program
and I had to have good grades to be accepted.
Instead of winding down and becoming drowsy,
I found myself getting more and more excited,
with more energy flowing through me.
I knew that in order to accomplish the things I had to do,
I would need a good night's rest.
As I became more awake and energized,
I became anxious about it.
There was a ringing in my ears getting louder and louder.
I had an irritating itch at the top back of my head
that would not go away.
As I lay on my stomach in bed,
I felt like a huge electrical current was forging through me.
I began sweating from the heat.
I thought to myself,
‘Stop, stop, you have to stop thinking and go to sleep!’
“With a big whoosh, I suddenly did not know where I was.
There was a body laying below me.
With a panic, I realized it was mine.
I was hovering above my bed, looking down upon myself.
I did what any good Catholic girl would do—freaked out
and started saying the Hail Mary.
I was thinking, ‘Am I dead?
I just want to be back inside my body!’...”

Biography
In her youth,
Susan Schneider Kohl worked many different jobs
and met incredible people,
traveling around with her backpack and guitar.
Eventually, she settled down and started a family
and professional finance career.
Throughout her life, she wrote many poems, stories, and songs.
Since being editor of her high school newspaper
“Student Power”,
Susan edited several literary projects, including this book.
She also wrote a humorous editorial column published in
Final Lap Magazine and
AMX News.
Susan enjoys the inspiration of working with writers
providing whatever level of editing they need—from
proofreading to writing coach,
all the while keeping true to the voice
or particular writing style of the author.
Susan now lives in the Smoky Mountain foothills of Tennessee
with her amazing husband, Jim;
two valiant sons, Thunder and Ryan;
two beautiful step-daughters, Sarah and Lucy;
dog, Funny Angel; and desert tortoise, Louie.
Emancipated from the field of finance,
she now enriches her soul by helping others polish their tales
of common human experience.
